In class I have seen the opening scene of Memento which is made in 2000. I have made notes on about the thriller opening of the sequence.
This is a unusual film that is edited differently because the film is played backwards. The story is told backwards so the audience find it hard to understand and then they want to watch the next part of the film. At the beginning of the film it shows a guy looking at a picture and waving it around several times. Then the shot of a man dead on the floor is seen then everything filmed backwards where his glasses are placed back on his eyes and then is shot again. Flashbacks were black and white also there was blood involved The sounds at the beginning were non diegetic which creates a mystery feeling then leads to a heartbeat. At the end of the scene we can here voice over after the gun shot. The camera shots that was taken in the opening of the thriller was Long shot, Over the Shoulder, Close up, Low Key-Lighting and Wide shot.
