North by Northwest by Alfred Hitchcock

North by Northwest

This is another film i have been watching in Media which is called 'North by Northwest' by Alfred Hitchcock. It was a fascinating film that I watched as it involves a lot of mystery and suspense. It draws you into the film and makes you tense as the film carries on.

Madison Avenue advertising man Roger Thornhill finds himself  thrust into the world of spies when he is mistaken for a man by the name of George Kaplan. A series of scene takes place as his mistaken for another guy. He is tricked by many people in the film but tries to get out of any mess he gets in and tries to avoid the police throughout the film.

Getting away from the Helicopter

Alfred Hitchcock mistaken for Mr Kaplan is given a address to meet a the real Mr Kaplan. He goes there as he thinks he need to meet him and so he waits for a long time as vehicles go past him.  In a field where there is no one walking a field full of long dry grass. He waits until someone comes off the coach and asks is he Mr Kaplan but the guy says no and gets back on another coach. He waits and waits....

The next thing you know there lots of noise he looks around and as soon as he looks up he can see a helicopter coming towards him and falls quickly on the ground. He finds out that the helicopter is trying to kill him and that its coming towards him again to hit him. He knew he could be in a serious situation so he rapidly ran to the grass and hid there until the helicopter disappeared.

The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock

The film that I have been watching in Media Studies is “The Birds”, which was made and released in 1963. I think that the film was quite interesting with all the scenes that took place. It shows all the innocent people getting attacked by the birds especially the children from the school. Hitchcock's classic about a woman (Hedren) and mass bird attacks that follow her around isolated California community.  It is the apocalyptic story of a northern California coastal town filled with an assault of seemingly unexplained, random and chaotic attacks of ordinary birds - not birds of prey. Alfred tries to stop all this from happening and locks all the doors and window from the bird getting in the house.

A scene from 'The Birds' the attack

Everyone was sleeping in the house whilst Melanie heard the birds  gather in the attic as Melanie goes in she hears shattering noises. So she decides to go up the stairs to see what it was she knew that all the doors and window was locked so how can she still be hearing noises of birds. As she gets to the top of the stairs the noise becomes louder and louder. She turns the door handle and opens the door she takes a step in the room and she gets her torch and shines it in front of her and then....

She looked above and she saw the hole in he attic as she blinked all the birds started to come at her and attacked her. She could hear all the noise coming towards her as they cut her and made her bleed. As she struggles to get out of the room it was so long after that she fell on the floor. She was shouting for Alfred he came running up the stairs to rescue her and get her out of the room full of birds.

Melanie walks in through the door she gets attacked by hundreds of birds.

The image above shows us Melanie been attacked by the birds and now she’s in shock.

Coursework Brief

The Brief

For my thriller I have been asked to produce the titles and the opening sequence of a new fiction film which should be in the thriller genre. To make a good thriller  you need to have the sequence  of a maximum of 2 minutes . The group size should be between 2-4 no more than that. Whilst recording the video, it is acceptable to use people which are not in your class or school. The shots of the thriller should be around 5 seconds until the next shot so it makes the audience tense whilst watching it.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hey my name is Tania and this is my blog for my thriller. All my coursework will be put on this thriller blog. I will be updating it on a regular basis with things that I have learnt throughout the year. The media project will be based mainly on filming and editing.

I enjoy media as we do different things each lesson. We are also building up to our thriller which is exciting as we have to film and edit.
